Ceramic Knives - Features and Benefits
In recent years many people have started to use ceramic kitchen knives rather than traditional ones where the blades are made from steel. Originally made in Asia these kinds of ceramic kitchen knives are proving to be a lot more popular with a lot of users than standard knives.
As their name suggests ceramic knives are made from a ceramic material. Although we traditionally associate ceramic materials with breakable items the ceramics used here undergo a specialist treatment process that actually makes the end product harder than any other cutting substance apart from diamonds! This process is known as HIP (Hot Isotastic Pressing).
There are many benefits to using ceramic kitchen knives in comparison to traditional products. These include:
- Weight - ceramic knives will be lighter (and therefore easier to handle) than steel ones.
- Sharpness - these knives will stay sharper for longer when compared to traditional knives. This is due to the process that turns the base materials so hard.
- Hygiene - ceramic knives have proven to be more hygienic than standard knives. They are also chemically inert which means that they do not have a reaction to the food you use them on so they cannot cause reactions and deposits. So, they also cannot add tastes to your food, for example. And, as ceramic kitchen knives do not stain or rust you will not experience any problems there.
